George Bathgate
George is a permanent part-time resident of Mayne Island and owner of Shavasana Art Gallery & Café which doubles as his studio. He engages in various creative activities, primarily ceramic mask-making and writing for the two websites he maintains. His masks - thus far - are adorned with antlers and horns and are fired and either glazed or painted. Most of them are pagan in appearance and make a political or social statement. This life-long BC artist creates realistic coloured pencil drawings and lively silk paintings of the birds and animals she encounters. A senior signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Deborah is also president of the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council and chair of the Mayne Island chapter.
